The name
Savera in Hindi-Urdu means “morning or new beginning” – It’s like a new beginning in desktop linux offerings. Savera is a contemporary form derived from the Sanskrit word Savar (सवर), which refers to light, brightness, or something that is “self-illuminating”.
We chose this name since the default’s have been carefully chosen to provide you (the user) with a stable, traditional desktop environment that let’s you focus on your work – and not on the desktop operating system itself.
It’s indeed opinionated to an extent, the sole purpose of which is less need of tweaking and ease of usage right out of the box!
New beginning
Savera is freely available for you to use and tinker, but originally it started as a result of our need for a simple, stable desktop OS that is easy to install, packs everything we need and runs latest Linux apps.
We have been using it for quite a while and during this period we discovered need for various small and important tweaks and improvements. We included all the good stuff for you to enjoy!
